The local half
Folkestone moves, street by street
Folkestone is built on a slope that runs from the downs down to the harbour, and that shape decides nearly everything about a move here. What sort of day you get depends almost entirely on how far down the hill you are.
The Creative Quarter and the old town
The Old High Street is steep, narrow and partly stepped, with studios and flats above shopfronts on both sides. Nothing large stands here comfortably. We park where a Luton legally can, shuttle in with something smaller, and use more people. It is not difficult once it is planned; it is very difficult at nine on a Saturday morning without a plan.
The Leas and the seafront
Large Victorian and Edwardian houses, many converted into flats. The street is rarely the problem — the internal staircase usually is, along with lifts that were fitted into a stairwell void long after the building went up. We measure the lift door rather than assume it.
The harbour and the newer builds
The regenerated harbour side has the best access in the town: proper parking, lifts sized for furniture, wide corridors. Some buildings have a booking system for the lift — tell us if yours does.
Cheriton, Morehall and the estates
Postwar and later housing with driveways and space to turn. Straightforward loading and bigger volumes than people estimate, because the garage and the loft are usually coming too.
Up on the downs
Hawkinge, Densole, Lyminge and the villages behind them. Good houses, narrow lanes, and the occasional property where the approach decides what we can send. We look before we allocate a vehicle.

Wrapped, listed and racked indoors — for the gap between completions, or while French or Spanish residence paperwork comes together.

Does being next to the tunnel actually make a difference?
To a European move, yes — a real one. The terminal at Cheriton is minutes from most Folkestone addresses, so a load packed at your door is on a shuttle the same morning rather than after a day of driving across Kent first. It takes a leg out of the job that everybody else has to pay for.
Can you get a lorry into the Creative Quarter?
Not far up it. The Old High Street is steep, narrow and partly stepped, and the surrounding lanes are no better. We park where a Luton legally can and shuttle in with a smaller van. It costs extra hands rather than causing drama, provided it is planned.
What about the flats on The Leas?
Handsome buildings, awkward moves. Many are converted Victorian and Edwardian houses with staircases that turn twice before the first landing, and lifts — where they exist — that were retrofitted and are small. Measure the lift door and tell us the floor.
Do you cover Hythe, Sandgate and Hawkinge?
Yes, plus Cheriton, Seabrook, Lyminge and the villages up on the downs. They are all within a few minutes, which is why smaller jobs out that way are worth doing properly rather than squeezing in around a big one.
Is a move to France a different firm?
